Care for Your Health

The Bible states that a person who possesses wisdom will be conscious about his diet, also that self-love is expressed in the most fundamental way when we nourish and care for our bodies. As servants of God and believers in the word of God, we should all heed these instructions. It is a critical choice in disease prevention, acquiring vitality, and achieving longevity.

Here are three things to consider in improving your diet and caring for your body.

First, to be conscious about your diet means to carefully select what foods you will eat. The foods we eat either promote disease or provide the building blocks to good health. For example, high intake of process foods consisting primarily of sugar, salt, and fat, such as cakes, cookies, ice cream, soda, sweeten coffee drinks, white bread/enriched flour, candy, and packaged goods help promote the disease metabolic syndrome. This is a cluster of diseases occurring at once- diabetes, hypertension, elevated triglyceride, high cholesterol, and obesity. There is a high prevalence of metabolic syndrome in people whose diets are high in process foods. The foods we eat do have an impact on our health.
It is highly recommended to reduce and eliminate processed foods from your diet. Start by eliminating soda and sweetened drinks from your diet. For some people this change alone results in significant weight loss and reduction in belly fat, which is a risk factor for metabolic syndrome. Instead, try drinking water flavored with fruits. This method is low in sugar, fat, salt, and calories, but higher in nutritional value. Add sliced strawberries or sliced cucumbers( a favorite vegetable of our ancient Israelite ancestors) to your water to enhance the flavor and nutrition the next time your crave a sweeten drink. Here is a website for further recipes:

Next, get adequate physical activity. In our current modern world, we are becoming more and more  inactive at work and at home. Many jobs now are automated and require less physical activity. And at home with 24 hour entertainment available we spend much of our time on computers or phones. Our bodies were made for movement and to be physical. It helps release tension and stress, elevates our mood, remove excess sugar, fat, and calories from our bodies so we can stay lean and healthy. Aim for both functional activities and structured activities. Functional activities are those we do naturally like walking or running. These types of activities help us get exercise throughout the day without having to have a gym membership to do it. Try taking the stairs instead of the elevator next time, park a few blocks away from work and walk, at work deliver messages in person instead of emailing. Structured activities are those that are planned and purposeful, like taking a group exercise class, yoga, training for a 5k road race, strength training two to three times a week. All these various ways to stay physically active will complement a healthy diet in promoting health and vitality.

Finally, strive to get quality sleep. God says that He gives his beloved people sleep and peace of mind. Sleep is a natural part of the cycle of the world with the rhythm of day and night. Our bodies naturally rises with the dawn and begins to get sleepy with dusk and increases as darkness progress. This is what is called our circadian rhythm, that built-in clock that operates on the cycle of day and night. If we get inadequate or poor quality sleep we break this cycle. Limited number of hours or disrupted sleep has many detrimental effects, such as poor memory, decrease problem solving ability, depression, reduce reaction time, impaired healing of tissue and organs, reduction in growth hormones, and increase cravings for carbohydrates and sweets. Adequate and restful sleep does the opposite and helps prevent disease, elevate mood, reduces stress hormones, and provides energy and clarity of mind. Our sleep should be deep, restful, with dream sequences, and a gradual awaking with the new day.
Aim for seven to eight hours of uninterrupted sleep for most adults, youths and pregnant women may need more due to the growth cycles they are in.

If you have difficulty falling asleep consider the following tips:
  • Avoid caffeine after 12noon if you drink coffee. It can alter your ability to fall asleep.
  • Try to darken your house to simulate dusk- it cause your melatonin levels to rise. Melatonin is a natural hormone in our bodies that help promote sleepiness.
  • Utilize pray and meditation to help you relax and let go of the day. In  the quietness of your bedroom, with the light down low, pray to God and ask Him to watch over you, your family, and your community, and forgive anyone that offended you or ask forgiveness for your offense to anyone that day. Recite Proverbs 3:21,22,23,24 in recognition that God is your protector and giver of good sleep. Breathe deep through your nose and exhale through your mouth in a slow and relaxed manner for 12 breaths. This will help you relax further. Then let go of the day and all your worries, anticipations, and fears and enjoy the rest God gives.
By applying these three methods of being mindful of our diets, nourishing and caring for our body, we will be able to achieve good health, vitality and longevity. And this will not only benefit us but it will equip us to do the calling God has given each of us in our lifetime to do. We will be able to preach better, write better, sing better, provide for our families better, help others better, be better examples of the true believers of Christ. We will be a blessing to ourselves and to the world.

Dee

Yo, Dee
Why is it
that every time
I   meet thee
it's only tragedy
every page I turn
I see tears and misery
Yo, Dee
Shakespeare
got nothing on you
Your  life
reads more real
than any of his tragedies
movies, videos, and t.v. series
don't even come close
to the tragedy
that's yours'
Yo, Dee
your struggle
is so real

Yo, Dee
I want to tell you
open that window
and let the light
of Yah moon
shine in
Open your eyes
Dee
I want you see
I'll be right by your side
through the miseries
and through the tragedies
I'll never leave you
Dee
Me and you
are connected spiritually

If I Had

If I had faith
even as small as a mustard seed
I would
stand up fearlessly
in defense of the oppressed
If I had faith,
just a little bit
I would
climb the mountain
that stands in the North,
whose height seems
to touch the very stars
and conquer it
If God would give me
a fraction of the faith
of a David, a Samson,
or a Judas Maccabee
I would
face armies
with a sword, a bow, a shield,
with my armor about me
on the open field ,
in the valley
as they mount up their defense
with tanks, Jets, drones, missiles, guns
and nuclear weapons
and I would
run through them
and smash them into pieces
for they dared to come against
a Rock:
the Rock of God
I would walk by faith,
Move by faith,
Live by faith,
and Overcome all things
by faith, which is in
Christ my Lord.
Amen

I'm Coming Home

We left
Beaten and torn
battered into pieces
without a home anymore
No mother, No father
Without elders, priest, or scholars
No uncle or brother
Without a sister to mend up
my wounds, to say, "be strong now."
We left on slave-ships
Now, I'm Coming Home
on spaceships
Surrounded by brothers and sisters,
mothers and fathers
Apostles, prophets, shepherds,
priest, and scholars
Black Jews.
You gave me back
a 100 times over
All I ever lost
You go before us
in V formation
like the birds of heaven
Leading us
through the clouds,
over the mountains of Israel
To Zion,
to your holy temple-
Praises, and glory, and power,
and riches, and honor
Be unto you
O, son of the Living God, Most High
For you have remembered
us, your jewels,
and have gathered us
from the four winds
and from every country
we were scattered to.
Amen

Tree

Make like a Tree
and may your light
shine on me forever
Let my branches stretch
from the east to the west
Make me grow upward
till I reach heaven
among the clouds
Let my roots go down
deep under mountains
to underground streams
of the purest waters
and into mineral rich earth
May all the goodness
You placed in the ground
fill my veins traveling upwards
and into my leaves
Shine on me
strengthen me
uphold me
so that hurricanes, storms,
strong winds are but
as an autumn breeze
Let me rejoice among all the trees
because you have removed
them that destroy the earth
and established me
Your praise
Your joy
Your glory
Your true witness.
Let the birds come
and make their nest
high above the ground
among the clouds
and bring my fruit
forward at her seasons
give me twelve kinds
so that the people of
the earth may be blessed
and always full
and never hungry
You have planted me, O God
and your light has
cause me to grow
with your living water.

Been Down For Too Long

Who can Love like we do
search it
who among all the nations
have held so close to you
when all the kings of the earth
were drinking
till they stumbled
did not we stand
and resisted
waves of destruction
We cried out
Justice for everybody,
or Justice for nobody.
was it not us who
reminded the people
that they had the power
"Power to the people"
We rose up out of the ashes
like truth that can't die
and stood boldly
defiantly, manly
and said,
"It's a new day, and a new generation, and
change must come"
It's time to wake up
people, you been down for to long,
and NOW IS THE TIME.
See, Lord, our spirit that
you have place in us, bears
witness that we are your
sons and daughters.

Spiritual Warfare

We are in spiritual warfare not against other men, but the spiritual demon himself called the devil and Satan, that old serpent. He enters into the hearts of men to entice them unto error and evil using instant gratification and the desire for pleasure. This can be for food, sex, money, revenge, hate and any other things that stir the emotions and appetites of individual men and women. But this is not to the persons benefit, rather it often leads them to greater pain and struggles in their lives. Satan wants this for mankind, that they may suffer and eventually die. Many people do not realize that they are under attack by this evil force.  However, once our eyes are open spiritually we understand that we are in the midst of spiritual warfare and must fight back.
Satan attacks because of God's future plan for humanity. God's desire is to eventually restore the earth and all mankind back you the beginning, where God's physical presence is with man. In this new era that God is working to establish, sin would have no rule or power over the minds of men to bring about pain and chaos. This is because all humanity would know God and his Messiah, as the Bible says, form the least to the greatest. And the kingdom of evil would come to its end.
Out of envy and jealously for the future of man the Devil continually strives to destroy mankind, especially the saints of God; those who are conscious of right and wrong. They have the ability to challenge him and help other to overcome him as well. However, Satan knows that though man may know God, they are still flesh and blood and therefore subject to the possibility of sin-which is a test of faith to resist. This sin that is in them can be triggered by desires, greed, and ignorance, which Satan uses in his plots to overthrow them from achieving their destiny in God.
But God has not left us without a defense. He has outlined in the Holy Scriptures what we should do to resist the Devil. Consider these five steps that you can take in the midst of spiritual warfare or if you're undergoing a temptation to sin.
  1. Confess your sin or struggle with a fellow believer or spiritual leader in Christ and request that they pray for you as an intercessor. Christ, the scripture states, prays for us to the Father daily that we may overcome the evil one or Satan. Therefore, praying in unity with other believers is a critical weapon in our battle. ( 1 John 1:9, Rom. 8: 26,27)
  2. Look to the Holy Scriptures in sincere faith as your guidebook to life and spiritual warfare. Also, see it as your primary teacher, along with the Holy Spirit God has given us till He restores all things. The words of God are sure and faithful. ( 2 Peter 1:19,20,21, John 16:13)
  3. Seek counsel from a body of elders or ministers of God's word, who care about you and your salvation into God's kingdom. They will provide the wisdom and comfort to help you break through the strongholds of the devil in your life. They through study, prayer, and continual ministering are able to strengthen you. ( James 5: 14,15, 16, Proverbs 20:18)
  4. Resist the Devil at all times, through obeying God's commandments: know that the more your resist him, he will run from you. Because light is greater than darkness, and good overcomes evil. (James 4:7, Rom. 12:21, Eccl. 2:13)
  5. Never let anything or force cause you to abandon your faith in God and Christ. Keep your faith even unto death. ( Rev. 2:10,11, 2 Tim. 4:7,8)
And above all things, brethren, hold onto the covenant of our new hope: Love God with all you heart, strength, and soul, and Love your neighbor as you love yourself. If you meditate on this, memorize this, believe this, act on this, you will never fall from the grace we have from God in Christ our Lord, no matter what attacks may come from Devil.
Matt. 22: 37,38,39,40, James 2:8)
