We understand that God will avenge all evil done on earth-for he said, " I will reward every man according to his works" ( Matt. 16:27). One must reap what he has sown ( Gal. 6:7). However, until that appointed time comes God urges us in our times of despair and hurt to turn to him in prayer, because he cares for us in all our suffering ( 1 Peter 5:7).
God's love and care for us is illustrated most vividly when Hezekiah, the king of Judah, in his sickness and grief turned to God in prayer for help. Did not God Hear in heaven and caused the prophet to say, "Thus saith the Lord, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee..."( 2 Kings 20:1-5)? Yes, He did hear.
In this day and age he still hears sending comfort and hope through his Son: Jesus Christ. John the Baptist questioned whether this was true or not and if they should look for another Messiah. Jesus replied, "Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached" (Luke 7:19,22). Thus, Jesus established his identity by the power given him of God and the love he had towards those in need. Today, God commands his teachers and prophets to follow Christ's example and comfort the people through the gospel: declaring that their warfare is done in Christ, because through him we have received forgiveness of sins and reconciliation with God ( Is. 40:1-2, Romans 5:8-10). When tragedy strikes we can remember this (that our warfare or separation from God is over) and know that he will restore our souls; leading us into the paths of righteousness for his name sake in Christ (Psalm 23:3).
The senseless murder of one's child, as the parents of the young men listed above experienced, would qualify as one of the darkest moments in a persons life. These moments can intensify with the constant memory and horror of the event, which can cause the soul to bow down or fall into deep depression. But the holy Bible tells us we can have Hope by recalling this one thing to our minds again and again, "It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassion fail not" (Lam. 3:21-22).
Jesus said, "Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted" ( Matt. 5:4). The scriptures tells us that this comfort will come from Jesus himself: ..."For the Lam(Jesus) which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes" (Rev. 7:17).
To those who are suffering today hear the voice of comfort, as it echoes through the ages to meet our needs now and forevermore: "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me" (John 14:1). Peace I leave you with, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid" ( John 14:27). Depression and sorrows can make the mind unstable causing us to give up, but if we put our faith in God by Christ we can overcome; because he is the God of comfort, which is, and which was, and which is to come ( 2 Cor. 1:3-4).
May this sacrifice of praise lift up your spirit and give you hope:
A Prayer of Help:
Psalm 79:9-13
God will give us justice and comfort- and we will walk in thy law, oh God, even in our afflictions we will not forget thy Word, it "is a lamp unto our feet, and a light unto our path" (Psalm 119:105). And we know that we have won the victory over death and now have a sure hope in the day of Resurrection by Christ the Lord ( Isaiah 25:8)
Amen
Shalam,
May God keep you and Bless you till we meet again,
Zarach
