We so often are concern with many issues in life. We occupy our time trying to find jobs, or getting to work and doing well to keep our jobs, what college we are going to attend or where we are sending our children to obtained their degrees, the political climate in our country. We worry about marriage and companionship. We even become anxious about what clothes to wear or not to so as to be accepted in our social groups. These concerns only increase the levels of stress, anxiety, and worry at times beyond what's normal. The result is the distraction of our minds from what truly matters: the kingdom of God.
But we must develop a type of leaser beam focus that anchors our minds and souls on the things of God. This can be achieved by reading and meditating on the holy scriptures day and night.
A follower of God then must be one who seeks out God's will, while he lives in this present age. The understanding of God's will comes only by a life dedicated to the study of the testaments or holy scriptures of God. Reading the scriptures continually is vital. It is a cornerstone of spiritual development and mental discipline in the things of God that keeps us from worry about other things that distract us from the holy path. Reading truly is fundamental.
The Bible does this work of development in us when we reflect on the centuries of recorded history and prophecy, the wisdom literature it continues, the laws and commandments, prophetic poetry, life instructions, and encouragement in the faith of God through the lives of God's saints as it is written. This practice of study opens our mental eye to see clearly and avoid the errors that is in the world by misguided people and those who desire to lead us off the path of righteousness. Study builds up our faith and leads us unto God's son: Yashawah the Christ from Nazareth.
This path of the contemplative life is a work in progress. We grow and mature the more we study and read the scriptures. Our understanding expands and be begin to know what is truly pleasing to God. This is a noble act says the scriptures, to search the Bible for instruction and guidance in all matters of daily living unto the hope of the kingdom of God.
The scripture also teaches us to live a balance life of study with application of the scriptures. This calls for setting aside dedicated time for study and meditation and then tending to the daily necessities of life according to it. Thus, we become doers of the word and not just readers of the word as we approach life from a God perspective ( James 1:22). When we live this way we fulfill Christ's word, " You are a city on a Hill that cannot be hid ( Mat. 5:14)." " Let your light shine to God's glory(Mat. 5:16)."
However, the Bible states that to much or imbalance approach to study can harm ones health. If we study to the point of neglecting our sleep, diet, exercise, love ones and those we are responsible for we only increase stress and anxiety, weaken our immune system, and age our bodies early, the very things we are trying to avoid. This is due to the negative impact and strain imbalance has on our own health and the emotional distress it puts on those closest to us. This practice is not good. God does not instruct us or require us to live this type of imbalance life. He only ask for diligence or routine dedication to the study of His word and application of that word as practice in our daily lives, which creates harmony, contentment, confidence, and increased faith that leads to the reward of a Kingdom- because we loved him by obeying him ( John 14:15).
